Buckeyes in Action at ITA Midwest Regionals – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team is in Evanston, Ill., for the ITA Midwest Regional Championships, which run through Tuesday with singles and doubles. Action continues Friday with the third round of qualifying singles and doubles main-draw matches.
The tournament opened with singles qualifying. Eight players of the 48-player bracket will advance to the main draw. Sophomore Kelsey Haviland, the No. 2 seed in the bracket, had a first-round bye and then downed Julie Bruess of Eastern Michgian in three sets (6-0, 3-6, 6-0).
All three Buckeye freshmen were in action in qualifying singles. No. 4 seed Gabby Steele had a first-round bye and then posted a three-set victory, as she rallied to defeat Jessica Seyferth of Wisconsin, 0-6, 6-4, 6-3. Fidan Manashirova posted two wins on the day, beating Amanda Moccia of Western Michigan in straight sets (6-4, 6-1) before an easy win over EMU’s Celine Donnet, 6-0, 6-0. Kara Cecil was knocked out in the first round by Miriam Westerink of Eastern Michigan in three sets (6-2, 3-6, 6-4).
