Women’s Tennis: Ohio State Finishes Day One at the William & Mary Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

Freshman Kelsey Haviland advances in singles
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s tennis team completed Day One at the William & Mary Invitational in Williamsburg, Va.
Julie Blackmore and Cami Hubbs started the Buckeyes off in the doubles A Flight, knocking off Klaudyna Kasztelaniec and Lauren Sabacinski of William & Mary in the first round, 8-6. The pair did not fare as well in the quarterfinals as they fell to Lauren Greco and Michaela Kissell of Miami (Fla.), 8-6.
Angela DiPastina and Christina Keesey lost in the opening round of the Doubles B Flight, 8-5, but rebounded in the consolation bracket to knock off Monika Mical and Leyla Morzan of Penn State, 8-1. They will resume doubles action tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. in a match with Laura Graybill and Sally Wilkey of Elon.
The final doubles team for the Buckeyes was senior Julie Voss and freshman Kelsey Haviland, who made her collegiate debut. After earning a first round bye, the tandem came up short in the quarterfinals against Katharine Attwell and Lana Krasnopolsky of Boston College, 8-5.
In singles, Haviland won her opening round match of the B Flight against Lauren Cash of Boston College, 7-5, 6-0, to move on to a quarterfinal match tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
DiPastina fell 6-1, 6-1, to Dasha Cherkasov in her opening match of the B Flight, while Hubbs lost 2-6, 7-6 (11-9), to Lauren Holzberg of Penn State in the A Flight singles. Keesey rounded out the Buckeyes opening round with a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Pamela Duran of Richmond in Flight A.
DiPastina, Hubbs and Keesey will all compete tomorrow in the consolation singles bracket.
