Tennis Blog: Buckeyes in Williamsburg, Va. – Ohio State Buckeyes
9/19/2008 12:00:00 AM | Women's Tennis
As the Ohio State women’s tennis competes this weekend at the William and Mary Invitational, senior Julie Voss will be checking in and giving us updates of the team’s activities.
Thursday The trip to and arriving in Williamsburg, Va.
The team met at the indoor varsity tennis courts this morning at 8 a.m. for our bus ride to Williamsburg, Virginia. The ride took us about nine and a half hours, but once we arrived around six this evening we were able to jump out on the courts, get our legs moving, and get a solid warm up in. We ordered out from Applebee’s and the team ate a nice quick dinner once we got to the hotel around 8:30.
Everyone is playing well and ready for a full weekend of four doubles and four singles matches. It will be exciting to get back into the “swing” of things and get out there and compete in our first tournament of 2008. We start early tomorrow with a 5:45 a.m. wake up call, so it’s bedtime for this Buckeye.
Thanks for checking in, and as always: Go Bucks!
Friday – Day One at the William & Mary Invitational and the ITA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony
We had an early start this morning out on the warm-up courts by 6:30 a.m. Throughout the morning most people played two doubles matches followed by one singles match in the afternoon. We won some doubles matches and got a few singles wins, but overall today was a day to assess where we all are in terms of our own games and what we want to do on the court.
It is always a challenge in the first fall tournament to compete against girls that have been back at school and training for a month or so longer than we have. However, I think everyone had a positive day today and tomorrow we will go out there and get it done. Tomorrow is flipped with one doubles match followed by two singles matches.
Tonight we had the special honor of attending an induction ceremony of four women collegiate players into the ITA Hall of Fame. It was special to take part in such a memorable experience for those highly respected and accomplished players.
Thanks for checking up on us and Go Bucks!
Saturday – Day Two at the William & Mary Invitational
First of all, congratulations to the football Buckeyes today for their win over Troy.
Today, the women’s tennis Buckeyes got yet another early start in the morning as everyone is competing in one doubles and two singles matches.
We got more wins across the board today, and I think everyone is doing well and working on their games. Even with some losses, we were able to take away the positives and turn it into a learning experience. The team had a meal at Carrabba’s once everyone was finished and we are all looking forward to a good night’s sleep tonight.
Tomorrow we play one doubles match and one singles match, and then we hit the road for our journey back home. I’m looking forward to fighting hard tomorrow in my matches as I’m sure everyone else is. Hopefully we will all rack up some more victories before returning to Columbus.
Go Bucks!
