Bhavsar, U.S. Advance to Olympic Team Finals Monday – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Former Buckeye Raj Bhavsar (2000-03) turned in a solid performance in the first of three qualifying subdivisions Saturday, as the U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Olympic Team advanced to the Team Finals at 10 p.m. EST Monday at the National Indoor Stadium in Beijing. Team USA finished the qualifying round in sixth, more than nine points behind No. 1 China.
For the U.S., Bhavsar tallied the team’s highest score on vault, notching a 16.175. The Houston, Texas, native also recorded the squad’s second best marks on rings (15.325) and parallel bars (15.625).
The 2008 Beijing Olympics is Bhavsar’s first Olympic Games after serving as an alternate for the 2004 Athens Games while training with Ohio State head coach Miles Avery in Columbus.
