Women’s T&F: Jenna Griffin Repeats as First-Team Academic All-American – Ohio State Buckeyes

Ohio State’s Olympic hopeful in the 400-meter dash carries a 3.96 GPA
COLUMBUS, Ohio ESPN The Magazine and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced their academic All-America teams for women’s cross country and track and field Monday with senior sprinter Jenna Griffin (Sr., Cleveland, Ohio/Westlake) taking first-team honors for the second-consecutive year.
Currently in graduate school, Griffin spouts an impressive 3.96 grade-point-average in Marketing and Strategic Communications. She is a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection, an OSU Scholar-Athlete, graduated Summa Cum Laude June 2007 and was the recipient of the Big Ten Medal of Honor this spring.
The native of Somerset, N.J., earned All-America honors this season in the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay at the NCAA outdoor championships in Des Moines, Iowa. Griffin finished seventh in the 400m with a time of 52.36 the second-best time in school history behind her own record time of 52.00 set at the NCAA regionals. She then helped the 4x400m relay team to a sixth-place finish at the championships.
During her decorated career Griffin has earned five Big Ten championships (two this season), the 2008 Big Ten Medal of Honor and All-America honors this season and during the 2007 indoor season in the 400-meter dash. She already holds school records in the indoor 400-meter dash, the sprint medley relay, the outdoor 4×100-meter relay (set at the 2008 Big Ten Championships), the outdoor 4×400-meter relay (set at the NCAA regionals) and the indoor 4×400-meter relay.
Griffin is currently training for the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials held June 27-July 6 in Eugene, Ore. She is competing in the 400-meter dash.
