COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s track and field team had its star freshman Letecia Wright and their school record-holding 4×400-meter relay team in action on day two of the NCAA Championship in Des Monies, Iowa on the campus of Drake University.
The 4×400-meter relay team of Chandra Krempel, Ashley Caldwell, Ayrizanna Favours and Jenna Griffin qualified third for the finals in the event with a time of 3:33.56. The team features two finalists in the 400-meter dash in Favours and Griffin. The team holds the school record and their time Thursday is second-best in Ohio State history to their record time they posted at the NCAA Mideast Championships two weeks ago. The Buckeyes earned the third qualify spot by winning their preliminary heat.
Wright did not qualify for the semifinals in 100-meter hurdles, finishing 18th with a time of 13.57. Wright enjoyed an excellent freshman campaign that included being a member of the Big Ten Champion and school record-setting team in the 4×100-meter relay. Wright was the only freshman to qualify for the finals in the 100m hurdles in both the Big Ten Championship and an NCAA regionals. Among freshman at the NCAA Championships in the 100-meter hurdles, Wright was second.
The 4×400-meter relay team will be back in action Saturday in the final of the event at aproximately, 4:37 p.m. Central Standard Time inside Drake Stadium.
