Women’s Lacrosse: Two Buckeyes Named to IWLCA Regional Team – Ohio State Buckeyes

Senior Kristen Slahor earns first-team distinction; sophomore Brittney Zerhusen collects second-team honor
COLUMBUS, Ohio Senior captain Kristen Slahor and sophomore Brittney Zerhusen of the Ohio State women’s lacrosse program were honored by the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Thursday, earning All-West/Midwest distinctions for their performance in 2008. The coaches association selected Slahor to the first team while Zerhusen was named to the second team in the West/Midwest region.
Slahor, a native of Ellicott City, Md., led the NCAA in assists during the regular season with 60 helpers, averaging 3.53 a game. The senior ranks fourth in the nation in scoring with 93 points, propelling her to the top of Ohio State’s all-time list with 221 career points. Slahor is the only Buckeye in lacrosse history to surpass the 200-point mark in the sport’s 13 year history. She also holds first place in career assists, a position she captured as a junior, with 139 career helpers. Slahor’s mark distances herself from second place by 77 assists.
Twice this season Slahor received national recognition, making the honor roll on womenslacrosse.com (March 3, April 21) and she also was tabbed a first-team all-league selection by the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC).
Zerhusen, who set an Ohio State single-game record with seven first-half goals against Bucknell (March 28), ended the season with a Buckeye-best 36 goals and notched the second-most points with 46. Her 36 tallies tie for seventh while her 46 points tie for ninth in the program’s single-season record book. The Sykesville, Md., native ended her sophomore campaign earning her first conference and regional honors with second-team All-ALC and IWLCA All-West/Midwest laurels.
