Women’s T&F: Ohio State Breaks School Record En Route to Sunday Final – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s track and field team completed day two of action at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships Saturday in seventh-place with 18 points. The Buckeyes were led on day two by their 4×100-meter relay team that raced its way to a school record.
The Buckeyes 4×100-meter relay team qualified for the final on Sunday with a school-record time of 44.51. The time was the best in the preliminary round and set a new facility record — breaking a mark set 17 years ago (44.70). The time is the 19th-best time in the country this season and sixth in the Mideast region. The time for the team of Bever-Leigh Holloway, Ayrizanna Favours, Letecia Wright and Jenna Griffin is also the best time in the Big Ten this season.
After a strong first day, Alana Gray finished sixth in the heptathlon with a score of 5,085 points. This mark is fourth-best in Ohio State history and the second-best score ever recorded by a freshman in Ohio State history. Gray was the top freshman in the event.
Veronica Jatsek returned less then 24 hours after winning the Big Ten in the hammer throw by 20 feet to take fourth in the shot put with regional qualifying toss of 50 feet 5 1/4 inches. Jatsek has 15-of-18 Ohio State points for the championships with many running finals scheduled for Sunday.
Favours returned to and advanced to the final in the 400-meter dash with a regional qualifying time of 53.70, finishing third in the prelim. Favours will be joined in the 400-meter final by senior Chandra Krempel, who took eighth in the prelim with a time of 55.28. Griffin returned to take the top spot in the 100-meter dash prelim with a career-best time in the event of 11.52. The time is third-best in Ohio State history, best in the Big Ten this season and seventh-best in the Mideast region.
Wright returned to take seventh in the 100 high hurdles with a time of 13.48 in the prelims to qualify for the finals on Sunday. Griffin completed the day finishing second in the 200-meter prelim with a time of 23.66, the sixth-best time in Ohio State history. Favours will join Griffin in the Sunday final as Favours took fourth in the prelim with a time of 23.68.
Women’s action resumes tomorrow in Champaign with the triple jump at 11:00 a.m. CT.
