Women’s Tennis: Ohio State Defeats Oregon, 5-2 – Ohio State Buckeyes

Buckeyes sweep doubles en route to sixth win of the year
COLUMBUS, Ohio The No. 45 Ohio State women’s tennis team (6-2, 0-0 Big Ten) defeated No. 46 Oregon (5-4, 0-0 Pac-10) Sunday, 5-2, at the OSU Varsity Tennis Center. The match marked the first time the Buckeyes had hosted a Pac-10 Conference team in Columbus.
Caitlin O’Keefe got the Buckeyes going in singles action with a straight set, 6-2, 6-0, win over Siobhan Cavan at No. 6 singles. Cami Hubbs followed with her team-high 20th win of the season, downing Stephanie MacFarlane at the No. 5 spot.
Paloma Escobedo won a 6-1, 6-3, victory over Anna Powaska in No. 2 singles to clinch the match for Ohio State. The win runs Escobedo to 4-0 from the No. 2 spot this season.
Angela DiPastina and Celine Rolly battled in No. 1 singles, with Rolly coming out the victor in a tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10).
Christina Keesey and Carmen Seremeta went to three sets at No. 3 singles. Keesey won the first set, 6-3, while Seremeta took the second by the same score. Seremeta broke through to win the final set and the match, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2.
At the No. 5 spot, Julie Blackmore powered her way to a 6-1, 4-6, 1-0 (7), victory over Ana Cecilia Olivos.
The Scarlet and Gray swept doubles for the third-consecutive match, putting them at 9-0 on the homestand in doubles competition. Ohio State lost just four games over the three doubles matches vs. the Ducks.
At the No. 1 doubles spot, it was DiPastina and Keesey putting away Rolly and MacFarlane by a score of 8-2, while in No. 2 doubles, Hubbs and Blackmore dispatched Powaska and Cavan, 8-2.
Escobedo and O’Keefe made quick work of Seremeta and Claudia Hirt at the No. 3 spot, sweeping them away, 8-0.
The Buckeyes will be back in the OSU Varsity Tennis Center Wednesday for a double-header with Louisville at 3 p.m. and Cleveland State at 8 p.m.
