Women’s Swimming and Diving: Ohio State Completes Day One at Big Ten Championships in Seventh Place – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team finished in seventh-place with 88 points after day one Thursday of the Big Ten Championships, held at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. The University of Michigan leads the field of 11 teams with 182 points.
Highlighting the day for Ohio State was the diving core of freshman Bianca Alvarez, junior Chelsea Davis and freshman Kristen Asman on the one-meter board. Alvarez captured third-place with a score of 310.70. Davis followed close behind with 308.85 points for a fourth-place finish. Asman earned a sixth-place finish with a score of 282.30.
Wisconsin opened up the evening with a win in the 200-yard medley relay in a Big Ten championship record time of 1:28.51. The quartet of senior captain Linda Lund-Kristiansen, freshman Anita Beck, freshman Maggie O’Brien and senior captain Annie Rennebohm led the Buckeyes to a ninth place finish in the event with a NCAA “B” qualifying time of 1:33.21.
Beck swam a NCAA “B” cut time and a career-best time of 4:49.28 in the 500 freestyle to place 13th in the event. Also leading Ohio State in the event were freshman Katelyn Brix and sophomore Haley Mitchell, each finishing with career-best times of 4:54.51 and 4:55.10, respectively.
The 400-medley relay closed out day one and saw a first-place finish from the University of Minnesota in a Big Ten championships record time of 3:34.16. The squad of sophomore Jill Lockhart, sophomore Megan Alexander, Lund-Kristiansen and Rennebohm finished in a time of 3:47.68 for an eighth-place finish for the Scarlet and Gray.
Other Buckeyes swimming in the evening’s events were Lockhart, who finished with a time of 2:04.42 in the 200 individual medley, and Rennebohm, with a time of 23.80 in the 50 freestyle.
The Big Ten championships continue Friday and Saturday. Friday preliminary races start at 11 a.m. with the finals beginning at 6:30 p.m. Saturday prelims begin at 11 a.m. with the finals starting at 6:30 p.m.
