Buckeye freshman returns from Australia after helping Team Argentina to a tie for 17th
COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State women’s golfer Victoria Villanueva returned to Columbus this week after competing in the 2008 World Amateur Team Championship, Oct. 8-11 in Adelaide, Australia.
The Buckeye freshman represented her home country of Argentina and tied for 72nd place at the end of the four-day tournament. Joined by teammates Martina Gavier and Maria Olivero, the trio led Team Argentina to a tie for 17th place in the 48 team field.
Villanueva carded rounds of 79-80-75-74 to finish 18-over. The native of Buenos Aires carded three birdies the last day of competition to secure her best round of the tournament.
Gavier lead the way for Team Argentina, finishing in a tie for 19th at 4-over after shooting rounds of 78-76-69-71 on the par-72 Grange Golf Course. Olivero tied for 47th place at 13-over with scores of 76-79-76-72.
Team Sweden took tournament honors with golfers finishing in first and second place. The United States finished third.
After a few weeks back in Columbus, Villanueva will again represent Argentina in the 2008 Copa Andes tournament in South America in November.
