Buckeyes finish fall season with a 7-0 record after tallying 9-1 and 5-2 wins.
COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State softball team closed out its fall season with two wins over Ohio University, 9-1 and 5-2, Sunday afternoon in Athens, Ohio. The Buckeyes finished their fall games with a 7-0 record.
Dee Dee Hillman helped pace Ohio State in the games Sunday, going a combined 5-for-8 and scoring three runs in the opening game.
The Buckeyes jumped out to 5-0 lead through the first two innings, fueled by Sam Marder’s base-clearing double in the second. After adding single tallies in the third and fourth, Ohio State clinched the win in the sixth when Alicia Herron belted a two-run homerun, her second of the fall, to leftfield. The blast gave Ohio State the 9-1 lead and the win.
Kim Reeder pitched a complete game, striking out six and giving up just four hits and one run.
In game two, Courtney Pruner was 3-for-4 from the plate with two of Ohio State’s five doubles in the contest. Hillman, Herron and Tory Haddad accounted for the other three with each earning an RBI in the process.
Megan Miller went the distance in the circle, giving up six hits and two runs.
The Buckeyes begin their 2009 season Feb. 6-8 at the New Mexico State Tourney in Las Cruses, N.M. Their first home series at the new Buckeye Field is scheduled for Mar. 21-22 against Michigan State.
