Women’s Swimming and Diving: Ohio State Drops Meet To Northwestern – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team fell to Big Ten opponent Northwestern, 167-133, Saturday at the Norris Aquatic Center in Evanston, Ill. With the loss, the Buckeyes are now 6-4 overall with a 1-1 conference record.
The Scarlet and Gray swimmers came away with three first-place and eight second-place finishes, while the divers swept the top two places in the one- and three-meter events.
Captain Linda Lund-Kristiansen earned the Buckeyes first win of the evening. The senior touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 24.16. Lund-Kristiansen also finished second in the 100 freestyle in 52.39.
Junior Chelsea Davis led Ohio State on the boards, capturing both the one- and three-meter events with scores of 318.53 and 327.45, respectively. Freshman Kristen Asman took second in the one-meter (296.93), while classmate Bianca Alvarez finished second in the three-meter (311.70).
The Buckeyes were led by Megan Alexander in the 200 breaststroke. The sophomore took the top spot in a time of 2:20.37. Also finishing first was sophomore Jill Lockhart in the 400 individual medley in a season-best time of 4:23.69. Alexander and Lockhart each secured second-place finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.52) and 200 backstroke (2:02.56), respectively.
Other second-place finishers for Ohio State were Haley Mitchell in the 1000 freestyle (10:14.56) and Anita Beck in the 500 freestyle (4:26.21). Freshman Samantha Cheverton captured two second-place finishes in the 200 freestyle (1:51.13) and the 200 butterfly (2:03.80). The 400 medley relay squad of Lockhart, Alexander, Cheverton and Lund-Kristiansen also took second in a time of 3:51.20.
The Buckeyes return to McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Friday when they play host to Big Ten rival Michigan beginning at 5 p.m.
