Buckeye Divers Sweep Big Ten Conference Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State University divers swept the Big Ten Conference weekly awards this week as junior Wes Wieser and freshman Bianca Alvarez were named Tuesday as the Big Ten Conference’s respective divers of the week. Buckeye divers have now been honored five times by the Big Ten this season.
Alvarez, a freshman from Miami, Fla., and Miami Sunset High School, set a new school and McCorkle Aquatic Center record with her 396.15-point performance off the three-meter board in a win over Wright State last Friday. She came back on Saturday to win the three-meter event again against Kentucky, scoring 372.00 points. Alvarez also placed second from the one-meter height in both meets. The Buckeyes downed both the Raiders and the Wildcats to improve to 4-3 on the season. This is Alvarez’s first Big Ten weekly award.
Wieser, a computer sciences and information major from Chesterfield, Mo., and Parkway Central High School, swept the one-meter heights last weekend to aid the undefeated men’s team to over Wright State and Kentucky. Wieser’s scores from the one-meter totaled 379.73 and 341.63 in the two meets The junior also competed in the three-meter dive competitions, placing second on Friday (381.53) and finishing fourth on Saturday (386.93).
Ohio State divers, under the direction of coach Vince Panzano, have won five Big Ten weekly awards this season. In addition to this week’s honors, Wieser, along with junior Chelsea Davis, was honored as diver of the week Dec. 4 by the Big Ten. Freshman Sean Moore was named Big Ten Diver of the Week Nov. 27 after he swept the diving competitions (one- and three-meter boards) against Cleveland State to garner his first and second collegiate wins.
