Buckeyes seek home pool advantage for 2008 championships
COLUMBUS, Ohio The 2007-08 Ohio State women’s swimming and diving schedule will feature eight regular season meets and culminate with two championship events at the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion: the Big Ten Championships Feb. 21-23 and the NCAA Championships March 20-22.
The Buckeyes open the season with two non-conference home meets at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion. OSU competes against Kenyon at 6 p.m. Nov. 2 and then faces off against Washington at 5 p.m. Nov. 9. The team then heads to Los Angeles for a dual meet with USC on Nov. 16.
Ohio State returns to the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion to wrap up the first half of the season with the OSU Invitational, Nov. 30-Dec. 2. Eight teams will take part in the event, including Minnesota, South Carolina, Denver, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State and Bowling Green.
A four-meet home stand will open the 2008 half of the season for Ohio State, starting with a Jan. 5 match-up against Toledo at 1:00 p.m. A busy weekend of meets follows with Wright State and Kentucky at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Jan. 11 and 12, respectively. Ohio State closes out its long home stand with a double-dual meet against Michigan and Eastern Michigan at 5 p.m. Jan. 19.
The Buckeyes will then travel to Evanston, Ill., to compete against Northwestern on Jan. 26. The team closes out the regular season at 5 p.m. Feb. 1 with a home meet against Michigan.
Ohio State will enjoy the home-pool advantage as the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion hosts the 2008 Big Ten Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, Feb. 21-23. The Buckeyes will take part in the NCAA Diving Zones on March 14-16 at home. Qualified swimmers and divers will then be a part of the 2008 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships that will take place at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion March 20-22.
“Both championships are such unique experiences,” Jeanne Fleck, Ohio State women’s swimming coach, said. “We are very excited about hosting Big Tens and the NCAA championships. That NCAA meet is one of the fastest meets in the world. Many records will be broken and it is exciting to think that we will be a part of that. We hope that this experience will be a great one for our team.”
