Women’s Lacrosse Adds Eight To Roster – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s lacrosse program has signed eight newcomers for the upcoming 2008 season.
“We very excited about this incoming group,” says head coach Sue Stimmel. “We are adding a lot of talent to compliment the players we have returning. We are hoping that mix will catapault us from a Top 20 team to an even higher level and into the NCAAs.”
Maghan Beaudrault won the distinguished athlete award at Webster Thomas (N.Y.) High School, where she was first team all-county, all-galaxy and all-state tournament. A three-time team MVP, she was the all-time leading scorer at Webster Thomas, and part of the silver medal team at the 2006 Empire State Games. An honor roll student, Beaudrault was also honored for her community service work in the Rochester area.
Natasha Blackburn, from Mississauga, Ontario, is a member of the Canadian national U-19 team that competed in this summer’s world championships. She is a graduate of the Hill Academy.
Local product Annie Carruthers is a graduate of Columbus Academy, where she earned 12 varsity letters in lacrosse, volleyball and basketball. An all-academic player as a junior and senior, Carruthers was team MVP three times, and earned All-America honors as a senior. Winner of the Plessinger Cup as her school’s outstanding female athlete, she also received a silver medal in the National Latin Exam.
Carmen Chona, from Bel Air, Md., was team captain at Bel Air High, earning all-conference and all-area honors. An honor roll student, Chona also captained the field hockey team.
Lindsey Gysin, from Noblesville, Ind., was first team all-state, two-year team captain and MVP at Noblesville High, earning All-America honors. Ranked first in Indiana/Illinois in caused turnovers, ground ball controls and interceptions, Gysin was a second team all-state selection in Maryland as a sophomore playing at Urbana High. Her sister Kendall will be a junior with the Buckeyes this season.
Melissa Minshall is a transfer from Ohio University. A native of Chevy Chase, Md., the freshman is a graduate of Stone Ridge High.
Jacqueline Orona, from Poolesville, Md., was a two-year captain and three-time MVP for Poolesville High, setting a school record with more than 200 career goals. An all-academic performer, she received all-county, all-division and all-metro honors as a junior and senior, and was also a starter in basketball and soccer. Orona’s brother Josh Funk will be a senior on the OSU men’s lacrosse team.
Maggie Smith, from Mendham, N.J., was the Morris County tournament MVP, earning all-area and all-conference accolades. Team captain of the three-time North A state champions West Morris Mendham, the honor roll student was also an all-conference performer in the 4×400 relay.
