Veronica Jatsek to Throw Hammer Wednesday at NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio Veronica Jatsek, a junior on the Ohio State women’s track and field team, will compete at the 2007 NCAA Championships in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday-Saturday. Jatsek earned her spot at the NCAA championships with a second-place finish in the hammer at the 2007 Mideast Regional Championship May 26 in Columbia, Mo.
The Ohio State hammer record holder first will compete in the qualifying round of the event at 2 p.m. EDT Wednesday with a chance to qualify for the final at 2 p.m. EDT Friday. During the outdoor season, Jatsek earned first-team All-Big Ten honors by winning the hammer with a league meet record toss of 208 feet, 8 inches. The native of Walton Hills, Ohio also received the Big Ten sportsmanship award. Two weeks later, she headed to the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships and finished second in the hammer throw to Brittney Riley of Southern Illinois, the world record holder in the indoor weight throw. Jatsek currently is ranked eighth in the nation in the hammer with her season-best toss at the 2007 Big Ten Championships.
Jatsek is in the midst of one of the finest seasons for an Ohio State women’s thrower. She earned second-team All-Big Ten status during the indoor season in the weight throw and went on to win All-American honors at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships in the weight with a seventh-place finish.
