COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State athletics communications office named Lauren Daykin, a senior on the softball team, as its female athlete of the week Wednesday. Every week, the department honors one male and one female Buckeye for their accomplishments during the past week.
Daykin (Melbourne, Australia/Manatee C.C., Fla.) batted .400 (4-for-10) last weekend in the NCAA regionals at Buckeye Field, helping lead Ohio State to within one win of a trip to Tucson, Ariz., for the Super Regionals. Sunday in a 6-5 loss to eventual regional champion Cal State Fullerton, Daykin hit a two-run homer, her first of the season, as the Buckeyes nearly came back from a 6-0 deficit.
Ohio State ended the season 40-18 overall and won the Big Ten regular-season and tournament for the first time in school history. The Buckeyes then made their fifth NCAA tournament appearance and first back-to-back trips.

Daykin batted .270 overall this season and started 43 games at either catcher or designated player, helping to lead the Buckeyes to the Big Ten title, conference tournament title and the school’s first back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances.
Baseball senior right-hander Trey Fausnaugh picked up two wins last week, including Ohio State’s 3-2 win Sunday at Penn State that pushed the Buckeyes into the Big Ten Tournament. Against PSU, Fausnaugh threw the final 2.2 innings and didn’t allow a hit, walking one and striking out two. Last Tuesday vs. North Florida, the Circleville, Ohio native pitched the final two innings to earn the win in OSU’s 8-7 victory. He gave up just one hit, walked one and struck out one.
