Linda Kalafatis, Ohio State head coach
On the game
“They (Fullerton) outplayed us in the circle, offensively and defensively. The hardest thing about today is to go down not having played our best.”
On Fullerton
“They are a great defensive team and their fielding percentage is very solid. Friday (in OSU’s 2-1 win) was uncharacteristic for them (two errors in OSU’s 2-1 win) for them. Today we weren’t making plays defensively and we couldn’t keep them off base. Everything that could have worked against us did.”
On remembering this team
“This team did things no other team in Ohio State history has done. They were Big Ten champs, Big Ten tournament champs, they worked hard and played gutsy. These seniors had great careers here and really worked hard for us.”
On losing at home for the first time
“We told the team before the game that we didn’t win all those games just because we were at Buckeye Field. We won those games because we played well. It’s not where you play, it’s how you play. But we travel so much that it was a comforting thing to be playing at home. We just didn’t get it done today.”
Jamee Juarez, Ohio State senior pitcher
On the season
“We accomplished a lot this year. We were Big Ten Champs and we made it to this tournament three times and for the second time in a row.”
On Fullerton
“They have seen both Kim (Reeder, OSU sophomore pitcher) and I so they knew what to expect. Megan (Miller) did a good job of shutting them down.”
Nycole Koyano, Ohio State senior shortstop
On the team this year
“No one will forget this team and what we have done this year. We did a lot of things that will be in the books for a long time.”
On the Fullerton’s momentum
“We struggled in the first game and Fullerton took that momentum into the second game. Errors just happen. They are a part of the game.”
Michelle Gromacki, Cal State Fullerton head coach
On the game
“The girls created this opportunity for themselves. They are a veteran team and they knew to stay calm and not get excited too early. They didn’t look to the games in the past, but instead focused on what they had to do now.”
On the team
“We’re like any other team. We struggled and we fought all year, but the team kept their heads together and did what they had to do.”
“We have mature, disciplined hitters. It’s as simple as seeing the ball and hitting the ball. It was important to keep calm and not get too hyped up.”
Jessica Doucette, Cal State Fullerton junior pitcher/3rd baseman
On her three homeruns Sunday
“I was just trying to find a way to contribute to the team. I’m not sure if I saw those balls any better than anyone else, but I made good contact.”
Candice Baker, Cal State Fullerton senior pitcherL
On the game
“I didn’t change anything in my game plan. I was more mental with myself and wasn’t concerned about the wear and tear. This is what we strive for all year and I was ready for it.”
On the win against Ohio State
“This is huge for us, but we plan on going further. This is our journey and we plan to make it as far as we can.”
