Women’s Tennis Loses Home Match to No. 2 Notre Dame, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team lost to No. 2-ranked Notre Dame, 7-0, Monday afternoon in Jesse Owens West Tennis Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes, ranked 48th nationally, drop to 14-7 this season (3-2 Big Ten). The Irish improve to 21-1 this season and extend their winning streak to 16 matches.
Ohio State returns to action later Monday when it takes on Wright State at 7:30 p.m. in Jesse Owens West Tennis Center.
The Irish swept the doubles matches to earn the doubles point. The Buckeye duo of sophomores Julie Blackmore (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Angela DiPastina (Titusville, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) lost to the No. 8-ranked duo of Catrina and Christian Thompson, 8-2, at the No. 1 position. At No. 2 Sonia Ruzimovsky (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Caitlin O’Keefe (Jr., Troy, Mich./Troy) were defeated by Kali Krisik and Kelcy Tefft, 8-2. At No. 3, Buckeye freshmen Ally Mueller (Fr., Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels (Texas) and Christina Keesey (Fr., Northfield, Minn./Northfield) were downed by Cosmina Ciobanu and Colleen Rielley, 8-1.
The Buckeyes lost all six singles matches. Keesey went to a match tiebreaker against Rielley at the No. 3 position before losing, 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9). At No. 1 Blackmore lost to No 26-ranked Catrina Thompson, 7-5, 6-1. At No. 2 Mueller was defeated by Christian Thompson, 6-2, 6-1. Ruzimovsky lost to Tefft at the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-0, and O’Keefe fell to No. 48 Ciobanu, 6-1, 6-3, at the fifth position. At No. 6, Julie Voss (So., San Angelo, Texas/St. Stephen’s Academy) lost to Krisik, 6-3, 6-0.
After the match with the WSU Raiders, the Buckeyes will travel for Big Ten matches at Purdue and Illinois this weekend. Ohio State will face the Boilermakers at 11 a.m. Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind., and will take on the Fighting Illini at noon Sunday in Champaign, Ill.
