COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men’s golf team will play host to the 2007 Big Ten Championships this weekend. The event will be played at the par-71, 7,444-yard OSU Golf Club Scarlet Course.
Practice rounds will be held Thursday. Each team will play 36 holes Friday and 18 holes Saturday and Sunday. Teams will tee off at about 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday. Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Northwestern, Ohio State, Purdue, Penn State and Wisconsin will make up the tournament field.

NOTING THE BUCKEYES
Colin Biles – Biles shot a tournament total 221 (76-72-73) and tied for 38th place at the Fossum Intercollegiate, April 21-22. Biles led the Buckeyes in scoring in nine out of the team’s 12 tournaments played in 2005-06 while also leading the team with a stroke average of 73.4. He finished in the Top 20 individually in seven tournaments with his best finish (T4) coming at the Fossum Invitational, (4/22-23, 2006). Biles was selected to the NCAA Central Regional competition as an individual and earned second team All-Big Ten honors in 2005-06. Patrick Simard – Simard’s last tournament appearance was at the Kepler Intercollegiate, April 14-15 where he finished tied for 53rd place after shooting 161 (78-83). The freshman is a three time national champion in Spain (96, 97, 98) and also was a regional champion in Spain from 1998-2001.
Jared Jones – Jones tied for 43rd place after shooting a 223 (78-70-75) at the Fossum Intercollegiate (April 21-22). For the senior, the second round 70 was an individual season best. Jones played in four tournaments in 2005-06 and had a 76.4 stroke average with his low round of 75 coming at the Duke Classic Oct. 9-10, 2005.
Zach Sebert – Sebert tied for 38th place and shot a tournament total 221 (72-72-77) at the Fossum Intercollegiate, April 21-22. The opening rounds of even-par 72 were an individual season best for the junior. Sebert was a Division III All-American at Otterbein College in 2006.
David Vallina – At the Fossum Intercollegiate (April 21-22), Vallina led the Buckeyes and had a career-best finish tying for 13th place. Vallina shot rounds of 75-66-73 (214) for a final score of 2-under par. Vallina’s second round score of 6-under par was the best round by a Buckeye this season. The senior played in six tournaments in 2005-06 and had an average that was second-best on the team (75.7). He shot low rounds of 72 twice and his best finish was a tie for 15th at the Fossum Invitational, April 22-23, 2006.
FOSSUM INTERCOLLEGIATE RECAP
The Ohio State men’s golf team finished tied for eighth place at the Fossum Intercollegiate Sunday. The Buckeyes shot a season best 875 (301-280-294) over the two-day, 54-hole event at the Forest Akers West Golf Course (par 72, 7,013) in East Lansing, Mich.
Tournament host and No. 29 Michigan State won the tournament by 14 strokes over Charlotte after firing rounds of 279-284-278 (841). Matt Harmon (MSU), Jason Kokrak (XU) and Jack Newman (MSU) shared medalist honors after shooting a 10-under par 206.
SUCCESS AT THE BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Ohio State men’s golf team has won a league-best 23 Big Ten titles, the last coming in 2004 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Buckeyes individuals also have had a lot of success in Big Ten tournaments, leading the Big Ten with 18 medalist honors. Kevin Hall (2004) was the most recent Buckeye to earn medalist honors in the Big Ten tournament. OSU has hosted eight Big Ten Championships, the last coming in 1997. In the eight tournaments in Columbus, the Buckeyes have never finished lower than fourth and have won four titles. Former Buckeye, Joey Sindelar (1981) owns the lowest 72-hole Big Ten individual score with a 271 (70-64-68-69).
