Women’s Tennis Downed by No. 25 Michigan, 6-1 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team was defeated at home by No. 25 Michigan, 6-1, Saturday at Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. The No. 43-ranked Buckeyes drop to 17-9 this season and 5-4 in the Big Ten. The Wolverines improve to 14-5 and to 8-1 in Big Ten play.
The Buckeyes will close out the regular season against Penn State at 11 a.m. Sunday on Senior Day. The match is scheduled for outdoors at Stickney Tennis Center. In the event of inclement weather, it will be moved indoors to Jesse Owens West Tennis Center.
Michigan won the doubles point with victories at Nos. 1 and 2. At the top spot, the tandem of Jenny Kuehn and Dhisako Sugiyama downed Julie Blackmore (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Ciara Finucane (Sr., Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern), 8-3. At No. 2, the Wolverine duo of Tania Mahtani and Kara Delicata, clinched the point with a 9-7 victory over Buckeyes Caitlin O’Keefe (Jr., Troy, Mich./Troy) and Sonia Ruzimovsky (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech). Ohio State’s Angela DiPastina (Titusville, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) and Christina Keesey (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) won at No. 3, defeating Allie Shafner and Lindsey Howard, 9-7.
Ohio State sophomore Julie Voss (San Angelo, Texas/St. Stephen’s Academy) posted the Buckeyes’ singles victory, beating Shafner at No. 6, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 1 Kuehn, ranked 91st nationally, defeated Blackmore, 7-5, 6-1, and at No. 2, No. 95-ranked Sugiyama downed Ally Mueller (Fr., Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels), 6-4, 6-1. At the third spot Keesey lost to Delicata, 6-3, 6-2, while at No. 4 Ruzimovsky was defeated by Mahtani, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 5, O’Keefe fell to Elizabeth Exon, 7-6, (3), 6-0.
