Women’s Tennis Loses to No. 7 Northwestern, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team lost to No. 7-ranked Northwestern, 7-0, Wednesday at Stickney Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. The No. 43-ranked Buckeyes, who had won their last three matches, fall to 17-8 this season and 5-3 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats improve to 17-4 overall and are in first place in the Big Ten with a 9-0 ledger.
The Buckeyes will wrap up the regular season with two Big Ten matches this weekend in Columbus. The Buckeyes will host No. 25 Michigan at 11 a.m. Saturday and Penn State at 11 a.m. Sunday on Senior Day. All matches are scheduled for outdoors at Stickney Tennis Center. In the event of inclement weather, matches will be moved indoors to Jesse Owens West Tennis Center.
Northwestern swept doubles to open the match ahead, 1-0. At No. 1 the tandem of Lauren Lui and Keri Robison beat Buckeyes Julie Blackmore (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Ciara Finucane (Sr., Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern), 8-5. At No. 2, the Buckeye tandem of Caitlin O’Keefe (Jr., Troy, Mich./Troy) and Sonia Ruzimovsky (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) lost to Alexis Prousis and Suzie Matzenauer, 8-4. At the third position, Wildcats Alexis Conill and Samantha Murray beat Ohio State’s Angela DiPastina (Titusville, N.J./Hun School of Princeton) and Christina Keesey (Northfield, Minn./Northfield), 8-3.
The Wildcats won the six singles matches for the 7-0 victory. At No. 1 Murray, ranked 38th nationally, downed Blackmore, 6-2, 6-2. At No. 2 Prousis beat Ally Mueller (Fr., Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels), 6-2, 6-3. At the third position No. 119-ranked Lui defeated Keesey, 6-3, 6-1. Robison beat Ruzimovsky at the fourth spot, 6-4, 6-2, and at No. 5 Nazlie Ghazal defeated O’Keefe, 6-4, 7-5. At the sixth position, Ohio State sophomore Julie Voss (San Angelo, Texas/St. Stephen’s Academy) lost to Matzenauer, 6-2, 6-2.
