Ohio State Shuts Out IUPUI, 5-0, in Game One – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In her first start at Buckeye Field, freshman Megan Miller took a no-hitter into the sixth inning as the Ohio State softball team shut out IUPUI, 5-0, Wednesday in game one of a doubleheader. In its first home game since April 1, Ohio State improves to 7-0 at Buckeye Field this season and 23-14 overall, while the Jaguars fall to 8-26 overall.
Making her third collegiate start overall, Miller (Woodland Hills, Calif./El Camino Real) allowed only three hits and improves to 2-1 this season. She notched career highs in innings pitched (7.0) and strikeouts (4). Miller retired the first four IUPUI batters of the game, then 11 in a row after a Jaguar reached base on an error.
The Buckeyes, playing their first non-conference game since March 24 at Cal State Fullerton to wrap up their spring break trip, scored in each of the first four innings on RBIs from five different players. Ohio State scored its runs on four RBI singles and a sacrifice fly.
Driving in the runs with hits were freshman Sam Marder (Calabasas, Calif./Calabasas) in the first inning, junior Liz Caputo (Riverside, Calif./Riverside Poly) in the second and seniors Megan Schwab (Glendale, Ariz./Sunrise Mountain) and Jamee Juarez (La Puente, Calif./Wilson) in the third. Sophomore Courtney Pruner (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) added an RBI sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to score Marder, who had hit her first collegiate triple.
Ohio State out-hit IUPUI, 11-3. Juarez led the Buckeyes with a 3-for-3 game at the plate, while Marder and Pruner both had two hits. In seven games at Buckeye Field this season, senior Jamee Juarez is batting 522 (12-for-23).
Ohio State and IUPUI will meet in game two Wednesday at 7 p.m.
