COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team started action Friday at the 2007 Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn. Events continue Saturday beginning with the shuttle hurdles relay at 1:40 p.m. EDT.
In field events, Veronica Jatsek opened Ohio State’s day of competition with a third-place effort in the hammer. Jatsek, an indoor All-American in the weight, reached 190 feet, 8 inches to lock up third position.
Ohio State posted solid performances in the jump events as well. Senior Veronica Vance reached 40-5 in the triple jump to place sixth. Fellow senior Jessica Stringer, a three-time Big Ten high jump champion, tied for 10th in the event at a height of 5-5. Freshman Ashley Bowden scored a tie for eighth place in the pole vault at a career-best 11-5 3/4.
Sophomore Ayrizanna Favours was the top performer on the track for Ohio State. She crossed the finish line in 14th-place in the 400-meter run, clocking a time of 55.1.
