– Ohio State is now 5-0 in the Big Ten for the first time in program history. The 4-0 start has been tied with the 1990 Big Ten championship team for the best league start in program history.
– The win Friday marks the second-consecutive season Ohio State has won at a Top 10 opponent. The Buckeyes knocked off No. 6 Alabama, 3-1, March 3, 2006.
– Northwestern entered the game Friday with a 29-3 record when outhitting its opponent this season. The Wildcats outhit the Buckeyes 6-5 but Ohio State knocked off Northwestern for the third time in the last four meetings between these two teams.
– Ohio State is now 17-4 this season when scoring first.
– Northwestern’s Tammy Williams saw her school-record 24 game hitting streak come to an end Friday with an 0-for-4 day at the plate. NU’s Garland Cooper, the two-time defending Big Ten Player of the Year, was held to an infield single in four trips.
– Ohio State is now 2-2 in extra-innings this season, while Northwestern is 3-1.
– Buckeyes at the plate: Sophomore Courtney Pruner’s five home runs this season rank second on the team behind freshman Sam Marder’s seven homers. Pruner now owns 12 homers in her career and has two career multiple-home run games (at Miami last year).
– Senior Christina Douglas went 2-for-4 with an RBI to extend her current hitting streak to five games, which is one shy of her career high.
– Pruner and Douglas are both now 3-for-7 (.429) in their career against Eileen Canney, who is 80-32 in her career at Northwestern.
– Buckeyes in the circle: Kim Reeder has won her last three decisions and went struck out her 100th batter of the season Friday (102). – Buckeyes in the field: Brittany Vanderink had four assists and Megan Schwab made two diving catches in left field for Ohio State, which did not commit an error for the third consecutive game. The Buckeyes own a .955 fielding percentage overall this season, but up that to .993 in Big Ten games.
– Weather: Sunny and 51 degrees at first pitch. Breeze left to right.
– Ohio State is now 26-52-3 all-time against Northwestern, including 23-10 in Evanston since 1989.
– Northwestern has 12 letterwinners back from its 2006 team that went 50-15, won the Big Ten and advanced to the NCAA Women’s College World Series, where the Wildcats fell to Arizona.
