COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s track and field team opened its 2007 outdoor season Saturday at the Auburn Springtime Invitational in Auburn, Ala. Two Buckeyes set facility records at the Auburn University Track Complex as Melanie Price won the steeplechase and Veronica Vance posted the top mark in the triple jump.
Price clocked a time of 11:26.90 to top the steeple field. She is the OSU record holder in the event as well, timing 10:46.55 in 2005. Vance reached 41 feet, 1 inch for her victory in the triple jump.
Junior thrower Veronica Jatsek also added a third individual win for Ohio State with a winning heave in the hammer. She tossed 187-5 for the victory and added a fifth-place finish in the shot put, covering 45-7.
On the track, Ayrizanna Favours clipped the fourth-best time in the 800 meters (2:15.28) and Emily Thompson and Ashley Jones finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 1,500-meter run. Thompson finished the race in 4:54.05, ahead of Jones’ 4:56.38.
The Buckeyes compete next week at the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.
