– With the loss, Ohio State is now 14-1 when taking a lead into the seventh inning. In addition, the Buckeyes are now 13-3 this season when outhitting their opponent.
– Buckeyes at the plate: Senior Nycole Koyano collected her 69th career stolen base in the game against Fullerton Saturday, moving into sole possession of second place all-time at Ohio State. Koyano had been tied at 68 stolen bases with Jennifer Link (2000-03). Anna Smith owns the OSU record with 108 from 1999-2002.
– The top of Ohio State’s lineup (Koyano, Brittany Vanderink and Sam Marder) went a combined 5-for-13 in the game.
– With a single to left field in the first inning, junior Brittany Vanderink extended her team-best hitting streak to eight games.
– Buckeyes in the circle: Sophomore Kim Reeder (9-5) threw her eighth complete game of the season Saturday.
– Weather: Sunny and 68 degrees at first pitch. Very slight breeze out to left.
– Ohio State is now 4-15 all-time against Cal State Fullerton. Saturday marked the fourth-consecutive game in the series that has been played in Fullerton, Calif., where eight of the last nine games in the series have been played.
– Cal State Fullerton went 37-24 overall last year and won the Big West Conference with a 14-4 league record. The Titans have eight starters back from their 2006 squad that made the program’s 22nd NCAA tournament appearance. Fullerton has one national championship (1986) and six Women’s College World Series appearances. Fullerton was picked to win the Big West Conference in the league’s preseason coaches poll.
