DJ Bucher Nabs Second Big Ten Gymnast of the Week Accolade – Ohio State Buckeyes

Columbus, Ohio – For the second time this season, Ohio State junior DJ Bucher (Mason, Ohio/Queen City Gymnastics) captured event wins on all three apparatuses he competed on to garner the Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award, the conference announced Wednesday. Bucher helped propel the then-No. 3 Buckeyes over then-No. 1 Michigan with a team season high, 220.5-215.85.
Bucher came in first on pommel horse, rings and parallel bars and noted Big Ten best on all three events for the week of March 12. On pommel horse, the Mason, Ohio, native grabbed his third event title of the year with a season-high 9.3. Bucher’s success continued as he tied Ohio State teammate Jake Bateman on rings with a first-place 9.5 to garner his third win on the apparatus this season. The Buckeye ended the night in first on parallel bars with a 9.65 and collected his fourth win.
In 2007 regular-season action, Bucher has noted two or more event wins at four of his six competitions. The junior earned his first conference laurel Jan. 31 after he noted three event wins in his first meet of the 2007 season vs. Illinois (Jan. 27).
Bucher made history when he became the only freshman Buckeye to garner All-America accolades on three events (pommel horse, rings and parallel bars) at the 2005 NCAA Championships. As a sophomore, Bucher won the 2006 Big Ten pommel horse championship with a 9.0 and became a two-time All-American on the apparatus at the 2006 NCAA Championships.
