COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team posted a 6-1 win over non-conference foe DePaul Friday at Jesse Owens West Tennis Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes now are 8-4 this season (0-0 Big Ten), while the Blue Demons fall to 6-6 (2-0 Big East).

The Buckeyes won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. At No. 3, the tandem of Kristin Messmer (Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) and Ciara Finucane (Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern) opened the match with an 8-2 victory over Bojana Murisic and Clare Chmiel. Julie Blackmore (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Ally Mueller (Fr., Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels (Texas) clinched the doubles point with a victory at the No. 1 position against Dunja Antunovic and Anja Mihaldinec, 8-6. The No. 2 match came down to a tiebreak, with the Buckeye duo of Sonia Ruzimovsky (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Caitlin O’Keefe (Jr., Troy, Mich./Troy) beating Kirsten Gambrell and Petra Rehusova, 8-7 (7-4).
The Buckeyes won five singles matches. Ruzimovsky was off the court first at No. 4, with a straight-set victory over Mihaldinec at No. 4, 6-0, 6-1. Mueller made the score 3-0 Buckeyes with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Gambrell at No. 3. After Blackmore lost to Antunovic in three sets at No. 1 (1-6, 6-4, 6-4), Christina Keesey (Fr., Northfield, Minn./Northfield) clinched the match for the Buckeyes, coming from behind to beat Rehusova in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Angela DiPastina (So., Titusville, N.J./The Hun School of Princeton) won at No. 6 over Chmiel (6-0, 6-1) and Julie Voss (So., San Angelo, Texas/St. Stephen’s Academy) ended the match with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over Murisic at No. 5.
