Three Buckeye Divers Qualify for NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three members of the Ohio State diving team qualified for the NCAA championships Friday at the NCAA Zone C Diving Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. Julie Broms, Kellen Harkness and Burley Showe each earned spots at the championships. The women’s championships will be held in Minneapolis, Minn., March 7-9. The men will travel to Minneapolis, March 15-17, for the championships.
Broms, a senior from Indianapolis, Ind. (North Central), secured her ticket to Minneapolis for the women’s championships when she finished fourth on the 1-meter springboard with a score of 545.20. This will be her third trip to the national championships.
Three-meter Big Ten champion Kellen Harkness, a senior from Puyallup, Wash. (Cascade Christian), won the 3-meter springboard to qualify for his fourth trip to the NCAA championships. He edged teammate Burkley Showe (Fr., Worthington, Ohio/Thomas Worthington) to capture the victory in a score of 645.80. Showe was the runner-up with 644.50 points.
Nick Hanneman (Sr., Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and Wes Wieser (So., Chesterfield, Mo./Parkway Central) also competed on the 3-meter. Hanneman recorded a ninth-place finish in the event when he totaled a score of 585.90. Wieser scored 555.75 to finish 14th.
Competition continues Saturday, with preliminary action beginning at 11 a.m. and finals starting at 1:45 p.m. The men will compete on the 1-meter, while the women will compete on the 3-meter.
