Ohio State Women’s Swimming Sends Two Athletes to NCAA Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State swimmers Griet Buelens and Gulsah Gunenc qualified to compete at the 2007 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in Minneaplis, Minn., March 7-9. Both women will swim two events each.
Griet Buelens (Jr., Kapelle-Op-Den-Bos, Belgium/Ursulinen Mechelen) qualified for the meet for the third consecutive time when she posted a NCAA `B’ qualification in the 200-yard butterfly to finish third at the Big Ten championships. Heading into the championships, Buelens is ranked 22nd with a time of 1:59.20. She also will compete in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle. Her respective times of 1:49.58 and 4:49.66 are the fastest for the team this season.
Gulsah Gunenc (Sr., Edirne, Turkey/Edirne Anatolian) will compete in her second consecutive national championships in both the 100- and 200-yard butterfly. She qualified for the meet when she stopped the clock in a NCAA `B’ standard in the 200-yard butterfly at the Big Ten championships. Last year, Gunenc became the Buckeyes’ first All-American since 1995 for her seventh-place finish at the 2006 NCAA Championships in the butterfly event. Gunenc enters the meet as the 29th seed.
