Women’s Lacrosse Uses a Six-Goal Second Half to Defeat Davidson, 8-4 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (3-1, 0-1 American Lacrosse Conference) women’s lacrosse team outscored Davidson (0-7), 6-2, in the second half to gain an 8-4 victory Sunday afternoon at Richardson Stadium in Davidson, N.C. OSU’s Kristen Slahor (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.) contributed four points with Jessica Patane (Jr., Farmingdale, N.Y.) and Brittney Zerhusen (Fr., Sykesville, Md.) added three each in the Buckeye victory. Slahor contributed two goals and two assists with Patane adding three goals and Zerhusen adding a goal and two assists. Wildcat Jen Crawford had four points in the game with three goals and an assist.
Ohio State opened the scoring in the first half with an Amanda Shimp (Jr., Endicott, N.Y.) goal at 20:51. Davidson tied the game at one with a Crawford eight meter goal at 13:40. A Slahor goal at 9:21 gave the Buckeyes a 2-1 lead. At 9:11, a Wildcat goal by Becky Horton, on an assist from Crawford, tied the game at two to end the scoring in the first half.
Davidson opened the second half at 23:11 with Crawford’s second goal to take a 3-2 lead. The Buckeyes then outscored the Wildcats, 5-0 to open a 7-3 lead. The Ohio State run began at 22:27 with a Patane goal to tie the game at three. Kelly Haggerty (Fr., West Chester, Pa.) scored, with an assist from Slahor, at 20:48 gave Ohio State a 4-3 lead. Slahor contributed an eight meter goal at 17:40 to make the lead, 5-3. Patane, scored OSU’s next two goals at 8:06 and 5:48, both on assists by Zerhusen, to open a 7-3 lead. Davidson responded with Crawford’s third goal of the game at 1:24 on a Sarah Walter assist. The Buckeyes closed out the scoring with a Zerhusen goal with 50 seconds left on a Slahor assist for the final, 8-4 score.
Ohio State’s Kristen Gilwee (So., Hunt Valley, Md.), 3-0 on the season, took the win in goal making 12 saves while giving up four goals. Wildcat goalie Laura Johnson (0-4) gave up eight goals in the loss while making seven saves.
The Buckeyes continue on the road next week when they travel to sixth-ranked Notre Dame (4-1) for a 4 p.m. game Wednesday and play at St. Bonaventure (1-2) Sunday at noon.
