CLEARWATER, Fla. – One day after getting roughed up by the Ohio State softball team in a 4-0 loss, Virginia Tech All-American Angela Tincher threw her second no-hitter of the weekend to lead the Hokies to a 2-0 win over the Buckeyes in the Silver Flight championship game of the USF adidas Invitational at Eddie C. Moore Complex in Clearwater.
Ohio State, now 12-10 overall, had not been no-hit since March 30, 2001, against Iowa’s Sarah Thompson in Columbus. Virginia Tech improves to 21-7. The game was the eighth this weekend for the Buckeyes, marking the first eight-game weekend in program history.
Senior Jamee Juarez (La Puente, Calif./Wilson) threw a complete game for the Buckeyes, striking out six, walking two and allowing seven hits. VaTech’s Whitney Davis hit a two-out, two-run triple in the sixth inning to drive in the game-winning runs for the Hokies.
Tincher struck out 12 and walked five. Juarez and senior Lauren Daykin (Melbourne, Australia/Manatee C.C., Fla.) both walked twice.
Ohio State returns to Columbus and hosts the Buckeye Invitational next Saturday and Sunday. The Buckeyes welcome Oakland and Binghamton for the event, which will be followed by Ohio State’s six-day, six-game spring break trip in the Los Angeles area March 20-24.

– The Buckeyes played a program-record eight games this weekend in Clearwater. Seven previous times in program history Ohio State had played seven games in one weekend, including in 2002 and 2005 at the Buzz Classic, in 2000 at the Winthrop Invitational, in 1998 at the Capital Classic, twice in 1990 and once in 1986. – Of the six teams in Ohio State’s pool this weekend at the USF adidas Invitational, four advanced to the championship game of their respective flights (Hofstra won the Gold Flight, Virginia Tech and Ohio State played in the Silver Flight and Fordham won the Bronze Flight).
– Buckeyes at the plate: junior Brittany Vanderink and freshman Sam Marder saw their six-game hit streaks come to an end.
– Buckeyes in the circle: senior Jamee Juarez threw the 56th complete game of her career Sunday.
– Buckeyes in the field: the Buckeyes did not commit an error for the third-consecutive game.
