COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team completed the 2007 NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships Saturday in Minneapolis, Minn. The Buckeyes competed in a combined six events during the three-day meet.
“We were very excited to compete at the NCAA championships,” Jeanne Fleck, head coach swimming coach, said. “It was a challenge to qualify for the meet. The championships are faster than they ever have been before. This year, the women had to swim a full two seconds faster to qualify for the finals than last year.”
Julie Broms (Sr., Indianapois, Ind./North Central) concluded her events at the championships Friday on the 3-meter board. She posted a 19th-place finish with a score of 307.80. Griet Buelens (Jr., Kapelle, Belgium/Ursulinen Mechelen) and Gulsah Gunenc (Sr., Edirne, Turkey, Edirne Anatolian) also competed Friday. Buelens swam the 200-yard freestyle, finishing in a time of 1:50.20 for 61st place. Gunenc competed in the 100-yard butterfly. Her time of 56.34 earned her 50th place.
Both Buelens and Gunenc closed the championship meet in the 200-yard butterfly. Buelens clocked a time of 2:01.27 for 34th place. Gunenc swam her final event as a Buckeye in the 37th fastest time of 2:01.48.
