– With three home runs this season, OSU’s Sam Marder is already in the Top 5 on the freshman home run list. Kristine Himes owns the freshman home run record with 10 in 2000.
– OSU freshman Megan Miller has pitched in all five games of the tournament during the weekend.
– The game Sunday marked OSU assistant coach Erica Beach’s return to Farrington Stadium. Beach was an All-American at Arizona State, pitching for the Sun Devils from 1999-2002.
– OSU junior center fielder Liz Caputo played high school softball with ASU’s Mindy Cowles.
– Ohio State is now 3-9 all-time against Arizona State and 2-3 in the last five meetings. Of note, 11 of the 12 games in this series have been played in Arizona, either in Tempe or Tucson.
– Arizona State has seven starters back from its 2006 team that went 53-15 and carried the No. 6 seed into the Women’s College World Series, where the Sun Devils went 1-2.
– ASU’s Kaitlin Cochran, who homered against the Buckeyes Sunday, is on the USA Softball Preseason Player of the Year watch list.
