COLUMBUS, Ohio Ohio State University junior diver Chelsea Davis has been named the Big Ten Conference women’s Diver of the Week for her efforts in helping the Buckeyes take second in their own 15-team invitational last week.
Davis, a biology major from Columbus and Worthington-Kilbourne High School, posted a first- and a third-place finish at the Ohio State Invitational. Off the three-meter board, Davis recorded a meet-best score of 333.10 which qualifies her for the NCAA Zone meet in March. Her third-place showing from the one-meter also sends her to the Zone meet with a result of 290.00. The weekly award is Davis’ second from the Big Ten.
Davis is the third Buckeye diver to be honored by the Big Ten this season. Wes Wieser is the Big Ten men’s Diver of the Week this week and previously freshman Sean Moore was selected for the honor.
Davis won the Big Ten championship on the three-meter springboard as a freshman in 2005-06 while competing for Northwestern. She went on to earn honorable mention All-America honors that year. Last year for the Buckeyes she never placed third in a dual meet during the season. She did not compete in the post-season due to an injury.
