Women’s Tennis Finishes Third Day at ITA Regionals – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State women’s tennis team finished up the third day of competition at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich. Junior Angela DiPastina led the way, earning a spot in the singles Round of 16.
The singles main draw got under way Saturday, with DiPastina and Paloma Escobedo each winning in the opening round. DiPastina knocked off Marshall’s Erin Watkins in straight sets, while freshman Escobedo downed Miami’s Brintney Larson in three sets (6-0, 5-7, 6-4). DiPastina then beat Milica Veselinovic of Iowa, a 9-16 seed, in a hard-fought match, 6-2, 3-6, 7-5, in the Round of 32. DiPastina will next face third-seeded Cosmina Ciobanu of Notre Dame.
Escobedo was one of four Buckeyes to lose in three sets on the day, falling against Jacqueline Lee of Iowa, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, in the Round of 32. In the opening round three Buckeyes lost in the decisive third set Cami Hubbs, Julie Blackmore and Ally Mueller.
In doubles action, DiPastina and Christina Keesey won their first two matches to advance to the round of 16 before falling to the team from Northwestern.
Blackmore and Escobedo saw early success, winning their opening-round matchup before falling in the round of 32.
