Swimming and Diving Teams Ready for Scarlet & Gray Meet at McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio The Ohio State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams will compete for the first time this season at 5 p.m. Friday during the co-ed Scarlet vs. Gray meet at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion.
Two very special individuals and friends of the swimming and diving programs will serve as honorary coaches this year. Mae McCorkle, who the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion is named for, and Bob Bartels, former Ohio State swimming coach, All-American and member of the 1949 national championship Buckeyes, will serve in the honorary capacity for the Scarlet and Gray teams, respectively. Ms. McCorkle will be assisted by her granddaughter, Amy Essig. Both honorary coaches will deliver poolside speeches to their teams at approximately 4:45 p.m.
The Ohio State women’s team, with Jeanne Fleck in charge of the swimmers and Vince Panzano coaching the divers, will open its season with a double-dual meet Oct. 27 at traditional Division III power Kenyon College. Ohio University will also be competing.
The Ohio State men, under the direction of swimming coach Bill Wadley and diving coach Panzano, will officially start its 2007-08 season at 6 p.m. Nov. 6 with a dual meet against Kenyon College at the McCorkle Aquatics Pavilion.
