Ohio State frshmen earns honor after leading the Buckeyes at the All-Ohio Championships
COLUMBUS, Ohio Chris Olinger, a freshman on the Ohio State cross country team, was named the Big Ten runner of the week Tuesday.
Olinger, from North Bloomfield, Ohio, led the Buckeyes to a third-place finish at the All-Ohio Championships Friday in Delaware, Ohio. Olinger finished seventh among Division I runners in a time of 26:41.2 on an 8-kilometer course.
Olinger led Ohio State, which rested its entire Top 5 at the event. Olinger is the first Buckeye to win R.O.W as a freshmen.
The award is the first career runner of the week honor for Arnio and the Buckeyes’ first R.O.W. since Jeff See took home the honor Sept. 4, 2007, following the Kent State Short Course Open. Arnio is the ninth Big Ten R.O.W. the Buckeyes have claimed in the over the past four seasons more than any other Big Ten team in that span.
Ohio State will head to the NCAA Pre-Nationals Saturday in Terre Haute Indiana.
