Women’s Tennis Opens Spring Season with Victory over Bowling Green, 7-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) opened the spring season with a 7-0 victory over Bowling Green (1-3, 0-0 MAC) Saturday at Jesse Owens West Tennis Center in Columbus. The Buckeyes swept the singles matches, including three-set wins at the top two spots, and went 2-1 in doubles.
In doubles, the Buckeyes won at Nos. 2 and 3 to earn the doubles point. At the second spot, the Buckeye tandem of Sonia Ruzimovsky (Sr., Brooklyn, N.Y./Brooklyn Tech) and Caitlin O’Keefe (Jr., Troy, Mich./Troy) downed Ashley Jakupcin and Katia Babina, 8-4. At No. 3, Julie Blackmore (So., Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons) and Christina Keesey (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) defeated Stefanie Menoff and Samantha Kintzel, 8-1. Falcons Jenna Nussbaum and Kelsey Jakupcin topped OSU seniors Kristin Messmer (Lutherville, Md./McDonogh) and Ciara Finucane (Dublin, Ireland/Georgia Southern) at No. 1.
At No. 1 singles, Blackmore came back from a set down to top Ashley Jakupcin, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 and Ruzimovsky beat Samantha Kintzel at No. 2, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
The Buckeyes won the remaining four singles matches in straight sets. Keesey downed Jenna Nussbaum at No. 3, 6-1, 6-0. O’Keefe downed Kelsey Jakupcin (7-5, 6-3) at No. 4, while freshman Ally Mueller (Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels (Texas) beat the Falcons’ Katia Babina (6-2, 6-2) at No. 5. At No. 6, Angela DiPastina (Fr., Titusville, N.J.) defeated Stefanie Menoff, 6-4, 6-2.
All-time, Ohio State is 24-0 vs. Bowling Green.
