Buckeyes Wrap Up Play at Princeton Invitational – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team wrapped up its first tournament of the 2006-07 campaign Sunday at the Princeton Invitational in Princeton, N.J. On the final day tournament, which had a hidden dual format with no team scores kept, the Buckeyes were 4-3 against Buffalo and 5-1 vs. Princeton.
Four Buckeyes were 2-0 in singles Sunday – freshmen Christina Keesey (Northfield, Minn./Northfield) and Ally Mueller (Roswell, Ga./New Braunfels (Texas), sophomore Julie Voss (San Angelo, Texas/St. Stephen’s Academy) and senior Kristin Messmer (Lutherville, Md./McDonogh).
Keesey was a combined 8-0 in singles and doubles on the weekend. Sunday, she posted wins over Buffalo’s Smaranda Stan and Princeton’s Kelly Stewart.
Mueller, in her first singles actions for Ohio State, downed Katrine Fisher of Buffalo for her first collegiate win. She also topped Princeton’s Kristen Scott.
Voss was 4-0 in singles in the tournament, with wins over Denise Harijarto of Buffalo and Princeton’s Darcy Robertson Sunday. Voss was a combined 7-0 in singles and doubles in the tournament.
Messmer also was 4-0 in singles to open the season. She beat Tina Jacob of Buffalo and Laura Trimble of Princeton Sunday.
The Buckeyes will hit the courts at two tournaments next weekend, competing in the Wake Forest Fall Invitational in Winston-Salem, N.C., and the Cissie Leary Invitational hosted by Penn in Philadelphia Sept. 22-24.
