Women’s Tennis Members Play In USTA/ITA National Hard Courts – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Eight members of the Ohio State women’s tennis team represented Ohio State in the 2006 USTA/ITA National Hard Court Championships at the Stickney Tennis Center on the OSU Campus.
Incoming freshman Christina Keesey advanced to the semifinals before falling to No. 1-seed Elizabeth Lumpkin of UCLA, 6-2, 6-3.
Keesey is a native of Northfield, Minn., and will be one of two freshmen for the Buckeyes this fall.
The other incoming freshman, Ally Mueller of Roswell, Ga., also fell to Lumpkin, losing in the third round in three sets (7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (9).
Also representing Ohio State were seniors Ciara Finucane and Kristin Messmer, juniors Sonia Ruzimovsky and Caitlin O’Keefe and sophomores Angela DiPastina and Julie Blackmore.
O’Keefe, the No. 3 seed in the tournament, fell in the third round to Taylor Marable of Darien, Ill., 6-4, 7-6 (2).
No. 4-seed Ruzimovsky fell to future teammate Keesey in a super tie-breaker, 6-2, 6-7 (9), 1-0 (9), in the third round.
No. 8-seed Blackmore advanced to the quarterfinals before falling to Christian Tara, Wake Forest, 6-4, 6-4. On her way to the quarterfinals, Blackmore knocked off teammate Messmer in the third round, 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (6).
Finucane was downed by Kirsten Gambrell of DePaul in the first round by the score of 6-2, 6-1.
