Four Buckeyes Earn CSCAA Academic All-American Honors – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming team was named an Academic All-American Honor Team by the College Swim Coaches Association of America for its 3.14 team grade point average. Additionally, two swimmers, Gulsah Gunenc (Jr., Edirne, Turkey/ Edirne Anatolian) and Griet Buelens (So., Kapelle-Op-Den-Bos, Belgium/ Ursulinen Mechelen), earned individual honors.
To receive CSCAA Academic All-American status, swimmers must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better and also qualify for the NCAA championships. Gunenc qualified for the meet in the 100- and 200-yard butterfly events, where she recorded the team’s highest finish since 1995. Buelens also qualified in the 200-yard butterfly, as well as the 200- and 500-yard freestyle events.
Two more Buckeyes, Annie Rennebohm (So., Worthington, Ohio/ Thomas Worthington) and Elaine Chan (Fr., Hong Kong, China), earned the distinction of Honorable Mention Academic All-American Honors by meeting NCAA “B” qualifying standards to go with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better. Rennenbohm qualified for the meet for her contribution to the school-record breaking 800-yard freestyle relay, while Chan qualified in the 50-yard freestyle event.
