Former Ohio State Stars Compete Friday at 2006 USA Track and Field Championships – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State All-Americans competed Friday at the 2006 United States Track and Field Championships in Indianapolis. Distance runners Rob Myers and Brian Olinger both advanced to the finals of the men’s 1,500-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively. Former OSU national champion Dan Taylor threw in the finals of the shot put and placed sixth.
Olinger, who earlier this month placed fifth in the NCAA steeple final, turned in the eighth-best time in the prelims at 8:35.56. The native of Fresno, Ohio will run in the final at 3:35 Sunday. Robert Gary, a two-time Olympian and Ohio State’s distance coach, also ran in the steeple, but did not finish.
Myers, who claimed three All-American awards at OSU from 2001-04, clocked the fourth-fastest qualifying time in the 1,500m with a 3:38.86. The product of Rushville, Ohio finished third overall at the 2004 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 1,500m. He will run in the final at 4:40 p.m. Sunday.
In the throws, Taylor heaved 67 feet, 2 3/4 inches in his final attempt to nab sixth place in the shot put final. Taylor won the NCAA indoor shot put championship in 2004. Recent OSU grad Keturah Lofton, Ohio State’s 2006 Big Ten Medal of Honor winner, competed on the women’s side of the throws Friday. She placed 11th in the hammer at a distance of 203-7.
Former Buckeye All-American hurdler Joel Brown sees his first action today with the prelims of the men’s 110-meter hurdles at 4:05 p.m.
