Ohio State Women’s Swimming and Diving Adds Six – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s swimming and diving team has added six student-athletes for the 2006-07 season, Jeanne Fleck, women’s swimming coach, announced Friday. Farriss Blaskovits, Sarah Krone, Katie Chute, Sarah Ratica, Katie Bell and Meg Noble join six swimmers who signed earlier this year, to round out the 2006-07 class. Of the six recent signees, four are from Ohio, while one joins the team from Michigan, and another from Ottawa, Canada.
Krone is one of two in the class joining the team from Cincinnati, Ohio. She competes in the freestyle and individual medley events for Ursuline Academy and the Blue Ash Swim Club. Krone was a finalist in the 200-yard individual medley and 500-yard freestyle at the 2006 Ohio High School State Championships. She helped lead Ursuline Academy to the state runner-up. At the 2006 YMCA National Championships, Krone was a finalist in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle and the 200-yard individual medley.
Chute also is from Cincinnati, Ohio. Competing in the distance freestyle events, she is a four-year Ohio state championship qualifier from Anderson High School. As a senior, she was named captain of the squad and earned conference swimmer of the year honors. Her club team, the Anderson Barracudas, named her most improved swimmer for the 2005-06 season.
Bell is the only Columbus, Ohio, native in the 2006-07 class. One of the nation’s top platform divers, she finished third in the event at the 2006 U.S. Open and the 2006 Junior nationals. At the 2006 FINA Grand Prix in Rostock, Germany, Bell, a member of the U.S. Elite Diving Academy, finished 12th on the 10-meter platform. She has been a member of the USA National Diving team for the last two years.
Ratica joins the team from Solon, Ohio. She earned All-America honors twice in the relay events while attending Solon High School. A four-year Ohio state championship finalist, she earned a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle in 2004. A two-time coaches’ award winner, Ratica recorded multiple school records and is captain of the team. Competing with the Solon Stars Swim Club, she qualified for the 2004 and 2005 Junior National Championships. Noble is from Novi, Mich. She earned Michigan all-state honors in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle events competing with Mercy High School. She was a three-time All-America and all-state member of the Mercy relay teams. Noble also was a three-year All-Catholic League honoree.
Blaskovits joins the Buckeyes from Nepean, Ottawa. Competing in the freestyle events, she qualified for the 2005 Canada World Championship Trials. She was a three-time Canadian Nationals qualifier. Blaskovits was a member of the 400-meter freestyle relay team that holds the Canadian girls 15-17 national record. Attending Mother Teresa High School, she is a member of both the Nepean Kanata Barracudas and the Swim Ontario all-state team. In 2004, she was selected to attend Swim Ontario’s athlete identification camp.
Krone, Chute, Bell, Ratica, Noble and Blaskovits will join Megan Alexander, Jill Lockhart, Whitney McLellan, Colleen Schweitzer, Haley Mitchell and Mary Ann Wiser in the fall.
