Ohio State Women’s Tennis Holds Annual Banquet – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s tennis team held its annual awards banquet Saturday at Ohio Stadium. The team awards were handed out while senior Emily Howard also was honored.
Freshman Julie Blackmore (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) was awarded the Coach’s Award, which is given to the hardest worker on the team. Blackmore had 16 overall singles wins along with 19 individual doubles wins.
The Strength and Conditioning Buckeye Power Award, which is given to the hardest working Buckeye in the weight room, was given to red-shirt freshman Sara Kinning (Grand Blanc, Mich.). In limited action, Kinning had two overall singles victories and one doubles victory on the year.
The Most Improved award and the award for Most Valuable Player were both split between two Buckeyes. Both awards went to sophomores Caitlin O’Keefe (Troy, Mich.) and Sonia Ruzimovsky (Brooklyn, N.Y.). O’Keefe ended the season with 15 overall singles victories while earning 15 individual doubles wins. O’Keefe teamed up with Blackmore for 12 doubles wins on the season. Ruzimovsky totaled 18 overall singles wins as well as 20 individual doubles victories. As a doubles team, the duo of Ruzimovsky and freshman Angela DiPastina (Titusville, N.J.) went 18-11 on the year, including a 7-1 record in the fall.
Also honored was senior captain Emily Howard (Akron, Ohio). In her four years at Ohio State, Howard earned 13 overall singles wins as well as 19 individual doubles victories. Howard also is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection and a four-time Ohio State Scholar Athlete.
