COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State (0-8 overall) women’s lacrosse team lost, 7-6, at Duquesne Friday afternoon in Pittsburgh. OSU’s Kristen Slahor (So., Ellicott City, Md.) scored two goals for the Buckeyes with Kelyn Laws (Jr., Ellicott City, Md.), Kristen Hannon (So., Sykesville, Md.), Lindsay Weiner (Jr., Eldersburg, Md.) and Jessica Patane (So., Farmingdale, N.Y.) adding a single goal each. Duquesne’s Kelly Mulford, Courtney Tamasitis and Ashley Wood scored two goals each for the Dukes with Caroline Gallagher adding a goal.
Ohio State opened the scoring with just 33 seconds gone in the game on a Slahor goal. At 10:39, Laws made it 2-0 for the Buckeyes. Duquesne’s Gallagher scored at 12:10 on a free position shot to cut the OSU lead to 2-1. Slahor’s second goal, on a free position shot, made it 3-1, Ohio State at 21:28. The Buckeyes took the lead to 4-1 at 21:35 with a Hannon goal, assisted by Patane. The Dukes, with two goals by Mulford at 26:20 and 27:01 made the halftime score, 4-3, Ohio State.
Duquesne opened the second half at 31:38 with a Wood goal to tie the game at four. Wood’s second goal, assisted by Meredith Williams, at 32:00 gave Duquesne a 5-4 lead. The Buckeyes tied the game at five with a Weiner goal at 37:03. Duquesne regained the lead at 6-5 with a Tamasitis goal at 51:34 on a free position attempt. Tamasitis scored against with an assist from Keri Drexel to open a 7-5 lead at 52:39. OSU’s Patane cut the Duquesne lead to one at 7-6 with a goal at 59:51 to end the scoring.
In goal for Ohio State, Kristen Gilwee (Fr., Hunt Valley, Md.) had 14 saves in the loss while Duquesne’s Meredith Norris had 12 saves in the win. Ohio State returns home Sunday to host Davidson at 1 p.m. in the Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
