Cal State Fullerton Takes Second Game From Ohio State, 2-0 – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State softball team suffered its second shutout Saturday as host Cal State Fullerton handed the Buckeyes a 2-0 loss in the second game of a double-header in Los Angeles. Ohio State (16-12) suffers back-to-back shutouts for the first time since May 2004 but ends its spring break trip with four wins in its six games, while Fullerton (19-16) wins for the third time in its last four games.
Ohio State put two runners on base in each of the first four innings but Fullerton pitcher Brooke Weekley (2-3) was able to keep the Buckeyes off the scoreboard. The Titans scored an unearned run in the first inning and added another run in the fifth.
OSU freshman pitcher Kim Reeder (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.) struck out five, allowed just three singles and only one earned run but sees her personal three-game winning streak in the circle come to an end. Her record stands at 7-6 on the season.
Junior Nycole Koyano (Walnut, Calif./Walnut) doubled and senior Chelsea Baker (Gahanna, Ohio/DeSales) singled for OSU’s two hits. Koyano added a walk for the 70th free pass of her career, which ties Stacy Roth (1999-02) for third-most all-time at Ohio State.
Fullerton improves to 3-1 against the Big Ten in the last three days (swept Ohio State Saturday, split with No. 16 Northwestern Thursday).
Ohio State begins Big Ten play next weekend with games at Indiana Friday (3 p.m.) and Saturday (1 p.m.) and at Purdue Sunday (noon, double-header).
