Ohio State Completes Sweep at Loyola Marymount with 2-1 Win in Game Two – Ohio State Buckeyes

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind a four-hit, six-strikeout performance by freshman Kim Reeder, the Ohio State softball team defeated host Loyola Marymount, 2-1, to sweep a double-header from the Lions in Los Angeles Wednesday. The Buckeyes (14-10) have now won five consecutive games and hand the Lions (20-13) two losses to end their 16-game home stand.
Reeder (Salinas, Calif./Notre Dame H.S.), who earned the save in Ohio State’s 5-2 win in game one Wednesday, allowed a LMU solo home run in the third inning, but only three Lions would reach base the rest of the way as she improved to 6-5 in the circle.
Loyola Marymount, which swept a double-header from Ohio State last season with two one-run wins, entered the games Wednesday with a 63-17 extra-base hit advantage over their opponents this season but had just two extra-base hits against the Buckeyes in the double-header.
Trailing 1-0 after three innings, Ohio State tied the game with a run in the top of the fourth and scored the winning run in the sixth thanks in part to a LMU error. Of Ohio State’s 14 wins this season, six have been come-from-behind efforts.
OSU junior Lauren Daykin (Melbourne, Australia/Manatee C.C., Fla.) led off the fourth inning with a single to centerfield and was replaced by pinch runner Stephanie Hill (So., Centerville, Ohio/Centerville), who went to second base on a sacrifice by senior Chelsea Baker (Gahanna, Ohio/DeSales). A single by junior Jamee Juarez (La Puente, Calif./Wilson) sent Hill to third and senior Billie Carder (Celina, Ohio/Celina) brought her home with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Buckeyes scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning with freshman Courtney Pruner (Akron, Ohio/Ellet) led off with a walk and was replaced by pinch runner Nicole Lancaster (Sr., Magnolia, Ohio/Sandy Valley). Lancaster was moved into scoring position thanks to a sacrifice bunt by Daykin, then scored when the LMU second baseman threw wild on a ball hit by Baker.
Ohio State has an off day Thursday before traveling to Long Beach State Friday for a double-header beginning at 1 p.m. (PST).
